District Governors Dialogue Meeting

The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) in partnership with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS) held a dialouge meeting in Dana Reserve (25.-27.02.2024) and in Mujib Reserve (05.-06.03.2024), aiming to foster collaboration between district governors and conservation organizations in Jordan. The event brought together 16 participants in each meeting to discuss various aspects of biodiversity conservation and environmental law enforcement.

Throughout the meeting, participants were introduced to RSCN and its mission, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the organization's role in preserving Jordan's natural heritage. Presentations and discussions focused on biodiversity in Jordan, environmental and agriculture laws, and the importance of conservation efforts in protecting the country's ecosystems.

A key highlight of the meeting was the open dialogue between district governors and the RSCN team, addressing pressing issues such as law enforcement, violations, and strategies for dealing with environmental crimes. The exchange of ideas provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by conservationists and law enforcement agencies, paving the way for collaborative solutions.

Additionally, participants had the opportunity to visit Dana Reserve, where they received a firsthand experience of conservation efforts in action. The field visit served as a practical demonstration of the importance of protected areas in preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable development.

Feedback from participants highlighted the effectiveness of the program, with commendation for its relevance, clarity, and applicability to their roles as district governors. The proposed recommendations, including the signing of memoranda of understanding and the implementation of environmental laws, underscored the commitment of district governors to supporting biodiversity conservation initiatives.

In conclusion, the District Governors Dialogue Meeting was instrumental in strengthening relationships between government officials and conservation organizations, setting the stage for enhanced collaboration and coordinated efforts towards biodiversity conservation in Jordan.
