Training workshop
Good Governance in Public Administration

Under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Nayef Bakhit president of Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and in the presence of the Deputy Chief Commissioner Eng.Hamzeh AlHajj Hassan, the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority & the Arab World Center for Democratic Development and Human Rights in partnership with the Hanns Seidel Foundation – Amman, organized a workshop on “Good Governance in Public Administration” in Aqaba.

The activities of the specialized training workshop on the application of good governance in public administration were launched on Monday, in the city of Aqaba, with the participation of a group of employees of the ASEZA.

 

 

Deputy Deputy Chief Commissioner Eng. Hamza Hajj Hassan, said during the opening session, ‘’On behalf of the members of the Aqaba Council of Commissioners, we thank the UniHrd and the Hanns Seidel Foundation for holding this workshop in the economic zone of "Aqaba City" and good governance is one of the important basics in public administration, and added that the Aqaba Authority "Aqaba Special Zone" is a national project’’, and he talked about the stages of development of the region as well as the continuous royal interest in developing it because of its great impact on the national level.

 

Director of the Arab World Center, Dr. Amira Mostafa, welcomed the participants of the workshop and indicated that the three-day workshop will address a number of main aspects, including defining and discussing the concepts of good governance and public administration, the basic elements and objectives of good governance, its role in combating corruption, and a practical application on the basic structure of good governance, as well as how to make decisions, solve problems and other aspects.

The project manager of the German Hanns Seidel Foundation, Ms. Ulla Al-Shraidah, said, “In the beginning, I welcome you all on behalf of the Foundation’s Resident representative Mr. Kristof Duwaerts. Organizing this workshop comes to serve democracy based on the foundation’s motto since its establishment, and based on the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II to move forward in the reform process.’’

She added that many institutions, "especially in third world countries," are no longer able to distance themselves from global changes and crises, which led the leaders of those institutions to resort to the principles of governance as approved by many national legislations and international practices to protect themselves from the risks they may be exposed to.

It is worth noting that during the opening session, the most important elements of good governance applied within the ASEZA were presented.
