The first workshop aimed at introducing the principles of climate change phenomena as well as addressing the scientific linkages with protected areas and illustrating the role of protected areas in minimizing the impact of climate change through adaptation and mitigation measures as integral parts of management plans.
The second workshop gave decision maker an insight into the development of management plans for protected areas and the possible financing instruments in the field of climate change.
The target group increased their knowledge and understanding of the important role of protected areas in the field of climate change mitigation and adaption. In the framework of the workshop different tools were presented how to integrate protected areas in national climate change policies. The participants agreed that protected areas provide prioritized adaptation options to cope with the impact of climate change. It is necessary to collect data about climate variability and change, impacts and vulnerabilities in order to provide the basis for solid decision making about responses to climate change.
Within the adaptation section of the Paris Agreement, adaptation planning processes assume an important role. The process of integrating climate change adaptation into development processes at all planning levels must be advanced in all countries of the MENA-Region.
