The content of the first workshop in 2016 focused on the principles of climate science, climate change reality, the interactions and impact on biodiversity and protected areas and the relation and role of protected areas in mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Mainstreaming climate change into protected area management plans was the focus of the second workshop.
The third and last workshop was about climate financing mechanism and project development for protected areas. Main topics discussed:
The overall objective of the three workshops was to improve knowledge and management skills of executives and employees of institutions, that are entrusted with the management of protected areas, in regard to increasing the resilience of protected areas and their role in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The target group has now the knowledge of possible scenarios, impact and consequences of climate change on protected areas. Within the framework of various practical exercises the knowledge could be deepened. Furthermore existing management plans have been reviewed and concrete project ideas have been developed.
