Climate Change and Citizenship

In a collaborative effort between The Tammouz Center for Studies and Training on Citizenship and the Hanns Seidel Stiftung, a two-day workshop titled "Climate Change and Citizenship" held on April 5-6, 2024. The workshop aimed to tackle the pressing issue of climate change, educate citizens about its impacts, and devise strategies to confront it.

Throughout the event, expert presentations and interactive sessions provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of climate change causes, effects, and the urgency for action. Discussions delved into local implications and adaptation strategies, fostering a deeper engagement with the topic.

Covering a spectrum of topics, the workshop addressed climate change's role in exacerbating air pollution, desertification dynamics, and its impact on economic development and agriculture. It emphasized the dual nature of climate change as both a threat and an incentive for innovation and sustainable transformation.

Attendees put forward key recommendations, including the need to enhance public awareness, strengthen community resilience, foster collaboration across sectors, build capacity, promote green economy initiatives, and strengthen international cooperation.

The workshop concluded on a positive note, recognizing its success in providing valuable insights and practical solutions for Lebanon's future. Participants Participants gained new knowledge and skills to analyze climate issues and propose effective solutions.

Central to the discussions was the acknowledgment of government leadership, policy innovation, and international cooperation as indispensable for achieving ambitious climate goals and transitioning to a low-carbon, climate-resilient society.
