Ranger-Workshop on 'Rangers and Patrolling Skills' from March 20 - 27, 2016 in Azraq / Jordan

The 'Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature - RSCN' and the Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung have analyzed in 2015 the needs for the further education of Rangers from Protected Areas and the 'Environment Police' and agreed on a training program, which already started in 2015. RSCN has developed a 'Rangers training program' consisting of 3 phases.
For the first phase on "General Principles of Biodiversity Conservation & Protected Areas law Enforcement" courses took place for a first group from June 8 - 16, 2015 and for a second group from August 5 - 15, 2015 at the 'Royal Academy of Nature Conservation' in Ajloun.
In addition the first group participated in phase 2, which addressed topics of 'Rangers and Patrolling Skills' from October 22 - 29, 2015.
Continued was now with phase 2 for the second group, for which the course took place from 20th to 27th of March 2016 in the Azraq Wetland Reserve. The training focused on
- exact / precise understanding and use of terminology as described in the law
- patrolling procedures
- writing violations
- how to apply patrolling plans
- use new technology and equipment
- effective teamwork and collaboration with partners
Phase 3 on 'Law enforcement and Patrolling Strategic Planning' is planned to take place later in the year.
The conducted workshops will also serve to develop a curriculum that can be offered continuously at the 'Royal Academy of Nature Conservation' in Ajloun in the future. The results of the workshops and the measuring of the benefits are basis for the development of the new curriculum. Experiences gained under real trainings conditions will help to organize and conduct the different training programs in the future, at which many trainers are/will be involved.
