'Women in Dialogue' - Project 2017: 'Healthy Families' in Mafraq Governorate / Jordan

The “Women in Dialogue” - Project is divided into thematic years, so that it will build the skills of local women in a comprehensive and overarching manner. The second year will focus on “Healthy Families”.

Towards this aim, the first year (2016) “Freedom of Choice and Action” was focusing on building the women’s capacity in active citizenship and political participation, also to coincide with the parliamentary and municipal election campaigns, while the second year (2017) will focus on “Healthy Families”.

The program will target especially the young women (below 25 years old) and mothers with small children (below 30 years old) due to the reported problems related to sexual- and reproductive health and rights and early marriage within these communities. During the program, Jordanian and Syrian women will have the opportunity to get to know each other and build mutual trust.

In addition to topics like 'Interpersonal skills', 'Conflict Resolution' and 'Women's Rights' , 'Basic life skills – problem-solving and decision-making skills / self-awareness and self-confidence building skills / employability skills' several sessions about women’s health, prevention of diseases and addictions, and overall healthy lifestyle will be delivered (for example on topics like 'Sexual and reproductive health and rights', 'Child development and children’s rights' and 'Mental health and social well-being').

The aim of this training is to provide local women with practical skills to improve their quality of life. It will take place in the premises of local Community Based Organization 'CBOs', whose employees are closely involved in the program (see other article), in the villages of Sama Al-Sarhan, Saeedieh, Mughair Al-Sarhan, Um Al-Jimal. Thagreb Al-Jub and Al-Khaldieh.

With the lead of the hosting CBOs, each women’s group will organize a community event addressing one of the urgent needs identified in the local community. The purpose of this initiative is to, firstly, support the hosting CBOs to take a more active role in addressing the local community needs, and, secondly, to take the collaboration between Syrian and Jordanian women to the next level and outside the training room, and support the building of women’s self-esteem and confidence as active members of the society – at the same time expanding the positive impact of the program to women’s families, neighbors and community as a whole.

The first women group program takes place in the Al-Khaldieh District Society in Al-Khaldieh Village.
