Youth 2026: Participation, Decision-Making, and Change

On 13–14 February 2026, the Hanns Seidel Foundation, in cooperation with the Tammouz Center for Studies and Training on Citizenship, organized a two-day workshop titled “Youth 2026: Participation, Decision-Making, and Change.”

The activity brought together young participants from different regions of Lebanon to discuss youth participation in democratic and political processes ahead of the 2026 elections.

The workshop aimed to raise youth awareness of their role in democratic life, strengthen understanding of the Lebanese electoral system, and build capacities in leadership, advocacy, campaigning, and political communication.

It also provided a safe and inclusive space for dialogue between young people and political actors, while encouraging the formation of a cross-regional youth network focused on civic engagement.

Through interactive sessions, group discussions, and practical exercises, participants explored key topics including institutional trust, the role of civil society and youth associations, opportunities and challenges within the Lebanese electoral system, election monitoring, and the impact of digital media on public opinion.

Particular attention was given to translating youth civic activism into meaningful political representation and to mechanisms for safeguarding electoral integrity.

The workshop contributed to strengthening participants’ analytical thinking, dialogue, teamwork, and leadership skills. It also resulted in the development of youth-driven ideas and recommendations aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and inclusive political participation.

Overall, the activity supported the empowerment of young people as active citizens and reinforced their readiness to contribute constructively to democratic processes in Lebanon.
