The result of pro-democracy uprisings sweeping countries in North Africa and the Middle East since December 2010 was an increased and more visible demand for political and economic change also in Jordan. Constitutional amendments, a new Election law; a new Political Parties law; a new Decentralisation law are some of the reform steps Jordan has taken in the recent years. Also to mention an independent elections commission and a constitutional court. One objective of Jordan's political reform is the promotion of the role of citizens in political life and the decision-making process. To further strengthen the government's efforts in building a strong democratic society, the Hanns Seidel Stiftung is putting a strong focus on citizens and civil society organizations to evolve into accepted partners of politics, which will support a pluralistic political landscape.
