The goal of the first workshop, which took place from October 13 - 16, 2017, was to value the role of protected areas in climate change adaptation and mitigation and to understand the interrelations. The general overview on international conventions and protocols signed by the participating countries and the resulting responsibilities has given the scope to bring newly acquired knowledge into the necessary context. Questions like "Why do we need protected areas and what is their role in the provision of ecosystem services" were discussed. In addition in the Ajloun Nature Reserve, response options to climate change like adaptation and mitigation were presented by practical examples.
