The Hanns Seidel Stiftung in Munich on Friday, 14 October 2016, has reminded of 40 years of commitment to International Cooperation. With more than 100 projects in more than 60 countries, the Hanns Seidel Stiftung is an important mediator between civil society interests and governmental institutions. With almost 300 guests, the chairman of the Hanns Seidel Stiftung, Prof. Ursula Männle, looked back to exciting years.

The Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Dr. Gerd Müller, Member of the Bundestag, a "child of the foundation", as he called himself, held the first main speech. Minister Müller stressed the value of policy advice, but also the establishment of scholarship holders and alumni networks. Foundations in Germany are needed more than ever before. Building of democratic structures, the rule of law, human rights and institutions are important work fields at home and abroad. He thanked all political foundations for the outstanding cooperation, which he is wanting to expand further.

EU Commissioner Mimica, who held the second main speech, had selected Munich as a location in Germany to present the current Development Consensus of the EU and thus the objectives of the European Development Policy. The Agenda 2030 is the crucial basis. The sustainability goals must be the basis for everyone, in Germany, as in all other countries of the world.

In the following panel discussion, the current issue of escape and migration took up a large. Dr. Hans-Peter Uhl, Member of the Bundestag, Dr. Nils Behrndt, Chief of the Cabinet of EU Commissioner Mimica. Dr. Christoph Beier, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GIZ and Sid Johann Peruvemba, Deputy head of the General Secretariat of Malteser International, as well as a member of the board of the umbrella organization of development policy and humanitarian non-governmental organizations in Germany, VENRO, discussed the concept of circular migration, questions of religion as a cause of escape and the creation of perspectives on the ground.

The moderator, Dr. Susanne Luther, Head of the Institute for International Cooperation at the Hanns Seidel Stiftung in Munich, concluded the discussion with a look into the future in which the challenge of making the work successful and future-oriented will be "based on the output of previous generations".
