Understanding Climate Change

In the framework of the MENA-Region project "Climate Change and Protected Areas" the first workshop for a second group of 23 practitioner from Lebanon, Palestine, Tunisia, Morocco and Jordan took place in September 20 - 27, 2017 in the 'Royal Academy for Nature Conservation' in Ajloun.

The overall objective of altogether three consecutive workshops is to improve knowledge and management skills of executives and employees of institutions, that are entrusted with the management of protected areas, in regard to increasing the resilience of protected areas and their role in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The target group acquires knowledge of possible scenarios, impact and consequences of climate change on protected areas. The workshops are intended to develop management plans and strategies in order to effectively and equitably manage protected areas and to increase the resilience of these areas in times of climate change as well as to secure the long-term financing of these areas which form an important source of livelihood for the local population. The workshops provide an excellent opportunity for practitioners from different countries to exchange experiences and to build a network beyond national borders.

During the first workshop topics were addressed like Global warming, Evolution of Climatology, Climate Change Convention, Kyoto Convention and Paris Agreement, Biodiversity and Natural Reserves, Strategies for Climate Change: The impact of climate change & Mitigation Strategies, Climate Change Mitigation Tools, The Role of Nature Reserves in mitigating Climate Change, Adaptation Strategies, Adaptation tools for climate change and others. As part of practical exercises the participants were asked to demonstrate their appropriate knowledge.
